10 Bollywood Films Celebrated Hindu Boys Marrying Muslim Girls

Spread the love

In a country like India, where multiple ethnicities and religions are clamoring for their pacific co-existence, inter-cultural relationships are not so unnatural. However, these inter-faith relationships have always been a point of debate in our society. The recent controversy over the advertisement by a leading jewelry brand has again stirred the same topic. Although the brand has taken off the advertisement but the social media has been divided into two groups. One is supporting the ad and calling it perfect for establishing inter-faith amicability while second group is giving it names like promotion of ‘Love Zihad’. Second group of people have also raised this question that why Bollywood and brands always portray Hindu girls in Muslim families but it’s not the reality. There have been many instances when Bollywood has showcased unique love stories of inter-religions and several films have shown a Hindu man dating, marrying and romancing a Muslim woman. Here is the list of 10 such love stories from Bollywood when lead actors have romanced a Muslim girl.

Bombay

The classic film by Maniratnam is an excellent example of the fact that how beautifully Hindu and Muslim can co-exist in India. A Hindu man marries a Muslim woman in this film and their love emerges victorious after facing the communal riots as well. Bombay is beautiful as a film and still manages to bring some strong emotions.

Veer-Zara

Despite being a die-hard Shahrukh’s fan, I have to admit the fact that Veer-Zara is one of his few amazing films. The ageless romance between Veer Pratap Singh and Zara Hayat Khan is beyond imagination of many in which a Hindu soldier is ready to spend his entire life in the jail just for the respect of his Pakistani Muslim lover. The movie has amazing storyline and the soothing music makes it timeless forever.

Ishaqzaade

The love story is unusual in which a Hindu boy wants to cheat his Muslim girl to suppress her family politically but eventually they fall in love with each other. The climax of the film was heartbreaking but they loved each other so much that couldn’t stop them from dying together in love instead of living apart.

Gadar – Ek Prem Katha

Amidst all the drama and screaming dialogues, Gadar was the love story of a gentle Sikh man and a beautiful Muslim girl. Everyone knows that how big a hit this film was. And chemistry of Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel worked as the cherry over the cake.

Ek Tha Tiger/Tiger Zinda Hai

Two spies from India and Pakistan fall for each other despite being on a mission for their respective countries. The next sequence of the film has also continued the storyline and shown the couple very much in love. Here, the guy was a Hindu while girl was Muslim.

Dahek

The film has portrayed that communal hatred can destroy lives. Dahek might not be in the memory of many of us but the film has showcased a love story in which a girl and boy fall for each other without knowing their religious identity. However, their love grows stronger despite all the hurdles coming on their way. Akshay Khanna and Sonalee Bendre have played the leading roles in Dahek.

Raanjhanaa

The film was a huge Box office success that firstly portrayed a Hindu boy (played by Dhanush) crushing over a Muslim girl (played by Sonam Kapoor) and the same Muslim girl falling in love with another Hindu man (played by Abhay Deol). The movie had several possibilities to bring the right chords midst the audience with amazing performances and wonderful storyline.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

This was not a typical love story where hero and heroine romance and end up happily ever after. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was a modern and progressive take on relationships but it failed to amuse the audience. Through this film, Bollywood had tried to showcase the nerve of Hindu-Muslim relationship again. The film has shown the close bond of a Hindu boy (Ayan Sanger) with two different Muslim girls Alizeh and Saba.

Khuda Haafiz

Released during the lockdown on OTT, Khuda Haafiz gave lots of expectations to the audience. However, the film didn’t emerge as good as its trailer. However, there were some cute moments between the Hindu husband and his Muslim wife. The unique aspect in Khuda Haafiz was that their marriage was arranged one and the couple eventually fall for each other.
